A densely tufted, cool season, long-lived perennial bunchgrass with a massive, fibrous, shallow root system. It is adapted to a wide range of soil conditions except for standing wet or alkaline soils. Because of its very fine texture it mixes well with wildflowers to develop a (meadow effect.
